This week we finalized the patent application of our new product, NovaView Spotlight, and are ready to show this new innovation to the world.

NovaView Spotlight is the manifestation of our goal to truly simplify the use of BI, to make it more like Google or iPod.

You’re probably thinking to yourself (like I would) – “this is the 100th time I’ve read about a BI vendor claiming to make BI easy”….. and you are probably right.

So while you might be skeptical, I think this NovaView Spotlight will surprise you just as it surprised our early Beta customers.  We’ve been getting some great feedback from them that makes us believe we have something big.

I read this morning this note from Doug Henschen (http://www.intelligententerprise.com/blog/archives/2007/08/its_hard_to_avo.html) where he talks about this subject. Can BI really become easy and pervasive?

“Despite the many promises about easy-to-use products that will help spread BI enterprisewide, we’re still well shy of where we’d all like to be. As Cindi Howson observed earlier this year, “front-line workers and middle managers express exasperation at the state of many BI tools. Can’t someone make it look like Google? Or iPod? Give me a gadget on my Blackberry?”

I blogged about this topic in the past (http://www.panorama.com/blog/?p=69 ), and my belief is that BI vendors are still thinking inside the box when it comes to reporting and analytic tools. Whether you’re talking about Excel or any web-based pivot table solution, ease of use will only reach a certain level.  Putting BI in Excel does put it on “every desktop”, but it does not make it usable by every information worker.

We spent a lot of time analyzing what could change the adoption rates of BI and achieve true simplification. And now we are announcing it as a beta version (GA is due in 2 months).
