Leading BI Suite Recognized as the Most Optimized OLAP Client Tool in the Market

TORONTO, ON, October 29, 2007 – Panorama Software, a global leader in Proactive Business Intelligence (PBI) solutions, today announced that The OLAP Report confirms that Panorama Software’s BI suite succeeds as the most sophisticated and scalable BI suite for Analysis Services and SAP BW, ahead of Microsoft’s and SAP’s BI tools and general-purpose BI providers.

The OLAP Report is an independent, Web-only research resource that provides strict, unbiased information to help buyers make the most of their BI tool selection and implementation projects.  Nigel  Pendse, the lead author of The OLAP Report and the principal of OLAP Solutions, performed an intensive and impartial review of Panorama Software’s NovaView® suite and, with his team, produced an in-depth analysis report about the product and where it is positioned in the current market.

Nigel Pendse just finalized his latest OLAP report on our latest product for Microsoft SQL Analysis services and SAP BW.

Here is what he posted on his site: (http://www.olapreport.com/purchase/Reviews/novaview.htm ):

Advanced Windows, Web and Excel client for Microsoft Analysis Services and now SAP BW

“While most people — including The OLAP Report — expected that Microsoft’s purchase of ProClarity would severely damage Panorama’s business in the Microsoft market, actually, Redmond’s subsequent usage of ProClarity’s technology, along with the takeovers of various other Analysis Services client tool vendors, has meant that Panorama is pretty much the only serious contender left standing.

Most of our readers know that Panorama is a SAP partner; however what you many of you may not be aware is that we are also a partner of Business Objects through an OEM we have with BOBJ powering some of their OLAP front end capabilities that require MDX (BOBJ has always been focused on relational and does not have a good in-house solution for OLAP platforms such as SQL Analysis services and SAP BW).

As a partner to both companies, I wanted to share some of my initial thoughts on the strengths and weaknesses of each of these vendors, as well as the new value of the combined offering as well as things to look out for.

SAP strengths prior to the deal:

  • SAP offered a good data warehouse and BI platform for their Business Suite applications
  • 14,000 customers use NetWeaver BI
  • Growing satisfaction of capabilities in the latest version of NetWeaver BI for power users.

SAP weaknesses prior to the deal:

The world of productivity suites has never been more interesting. Just when we all thought it was over and Microsoft’s dominance of this world was set for eternity, things seem to be moving…. Moving very fast.

The following are just a few of the new players in this space:

Adobe with www.buzzword.com

Yahoo with www.Zimbra.com

Google docs/apps www.google.com/docs

http://www.editgrid.com/

http://www.smartsheet.com/home

www.zoho.com

While these alternatives might appeal to the consumers, businesses will probably still have to wait till they can switch from Microsoft Office System into these other productivity suites.

The main reason for that is the evolution of Office and what it can do beyond basic word processing and spreadsheets.

In the last couple of months we’ve been conducting a series of webinars about some new stuff we’ve being doing around SAP and PBI. on almost every webinar we had someone from Microstrategy…. when looking up the name of the people that attended on Google it seems as if those people are responsible for the Microstrategy compete strategy.

well…. today Microstrategy had a webinar and I signed up…. you know, just to check out what they are doing and guess what, i got a message that they won’t allow me in.

But even with that, I still invite any competitor come come see our latest innovations on any webinar we do ;)
